Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom is a plan B transfer target for Turkish Super Lig Besiktas if they failed to land Diego Costa ahead of the 2021-22 season.

The 25-year-old only joined Middlesbrough in September 2020 from PAOK Salonika for a fee of €3.20 million on a three-year deal but the Nigerian descent but has struggled for goals for Neil Warnock’s side, managing just five and providing two assists in 38 games in all competitions during the 2020-21 campaign.

According to Futbol Arena report that Besiktas are keeping an eye on Akpom as an alternative to top transfer target Costa after Middlesbrough boss, Warnock told former Arsenal striker to find a new club this summer.

As part of the new structure for the Riverside Stadium outfit, Warnock wants to add Andre Gray from Watford to his recent acquisitions of Nigerian duo Uche Ikpeazu and Sammy Ameobi.

Akpom is still under contract until 2023 with an option for a further year was as among the first group of players to report for pre-season training at Middlesbrough. But he’s now seemingly set for a move, possibly on loan, with Millwall, QPR, Bristol City, and Charlton Athletic all interested.
