Manchester United is prepared is to vie Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to the report.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have enquired about the availability of the defender, as the French defender is in the final of his contract at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid wants Varane to sign a new deal that will see him remain at the club for the next four years but if the former Lens defender fails to sign a new deal the Los Blancos directors won’t fail to entertain offers from suitors.

Varane is unwilling to continue at Real Madrid which has prompted Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to enquire about his availability, he is valued at €50 million (£43m).

Real Madrid has already signed David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free transfer and Sergio Ramos has left the club on a free transfer, the Los Blancos directors will have to sign a replacement for Varane if he chooses to quit the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The 28-year-old, who joined Real 10 years ago, has won four Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles in the Spanish capital.
