The Real Madrid striker has been left of the French squad since 2015 due to a blackmail case relating to a sex tape said to involved former France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

The ex-Lyon striker was accused of trying to extort money from Valbuena that led to his exit from the team since five years ago.

“That Benzema can return to the France team is good news,” Goal.com quoted Zidane as saying.

Michel Moulin, who is one of the candidates running against incumbent FFF president Noel Le Graet, has already said that he would work to bring Benzema back to the France team.

Benzema and his Real Madrid teammates will play against Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday at the La Romeleda in Malaga.
