Samad Kadiri’s 53rd-minute goal against Abia Warriors from the penalty spot ensured that Enyimba got off to a winning start in the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League on Tuesday.
After the heavy loss in Sudan in their CAF Champions League first-leg playoff tie, Enyimba were desperate to get their acts right in their first outing in the NPFL.

That perhaps explained why the People’s Elephant were all over their city rivals in the early exchanges of Tuesday’s NPFL tie.
While the first half failed to produce any goal due to the brilliance of both goalkeepers at the opposing ends, Enyimba got the breakthrough they craved for early in the second half.
The referee gifted the host a penalty kick having spotted a handball incidence in the Abia Warriors box.
Kadiri stepped up to take the resultant kick and he did not disappoint; sending the Abia Warriors goalkeeper the wrong way and giving Enyimba the lead.

At the end, Enyimba did enough to hold on to their slim advantage and begin their campaign in the NPFL on a winning note.
Only one game is now left to be decided in the matchday one games of the NPFL
