There would be nothing merry about this year’s Christmas for two Manchester City players after they tested positive for the dreaded Coronavirus.
This unfortunate incident has obviously thrown Pep Guardiola’s team selection for City’s Boxing Day clash with Newcastle into confusion.
Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus are the two players that have tested positive for coronavirus.
The duo, along with two members of City’s coaching team, returned positive results with both players having featured in City’s 4-1 League Cup win over Arsenal on Tuesday.
Guardiola will be left with a decision to make on his team to face Newcastle with Sergio Aguero still on his way back to full fitness.
Jesus has been regularly starting as City’s striker in the Argentine’s absence though Aguero has begun to return to the pitch.
A club statement said: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, and two members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
“All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.
“Everyone at the Club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”
