Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as they hammered Barcelona 3-0 at Nou Camp during their final UEFA Champions’ League group encounter.
Interestingly, it was the first time Ronaldo faced off against Lionel Messi since his move to Turin. The Portuguese missed the previous clash against Barcelona due to COVID-19.
After the match he said: “We’ve been in the awards ceremonies for 12-13 years now and I never saw him as a rival, that’s all stirred up in the media. We always got along perfectly well and if you ask Leo, he’ll tell you the same thing.”
The Bianconeri had to win by two clear goals other than a 2-0 result, to cancel out the victory Barca achieved in Turin and take top spot in the group and they achieved it courtesy two goals from Ronaldo and a first goal for the Old Lady by Weston McKennie while Gigi Buffon saved seven shots from Messi.
“It was Mission Almost Impossible,” joked Ronaldo when talking to Movistar. “The key was to start strong, as within 20 minutes we were already 2-0 up, so from that point on we really believed that we could do it. This victory is going to be such a confidence-booster, we needed a win like this against a big team.”
