Flying Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Black Satellites of Ghana, in their second and final group game of the WAFU B U-20 tournament.
The Ladan Bosso’s tutored side had played out a 1-1 draw against Cote d’Ivoire in their opening encounter and needed a win over West African rivals Ghana to to qualify for the semi-finals.
However, Nigeria failed to shine inside the Stade Charles de Gaulles as they conceded a goal from a freekick which now leaves their fate in the hands of Ghana.
The Flying Eagles had the ball in the net two minutes before the break, but it was ruled out due to a handball in the build-up. Nigeria dominated possession in the second half but they could not convert their chances. Ghana made them pay as a late freekick gave them the win.
The result leaves the Flying Eagles on the brink of elimination and will need Ghana to beat Cote d’Ivoire by more than a goal to have a chance of qualifying for the semi-final stages. Ghana are top of the group with three points while placed Cote d’Ivoire have the same point as bottom placed Nigeria on one point.
