The captain of the Ghana U-20 team, Afriyie Barnieh has declared that the sole target against Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in Wednesday’s Group B tie at the ongoing WAFU B tournament is victory.
Coach Ladan Bosso’s boys were forced to a 1-1 draw in their group opener against Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday and cannot afford to get anything less than the three maximum points at stake when they face the Black Satellites.
However, having watched the Flying Eagles closely on Sunday, the Black Satellites’ captain believes the Nigerian hurdle is not insurmountable.
“The game we watched yesterday involving Nigeria and Ivory Coast was very open. We won’t talk much, but do our talking on the pitch. We must take all three points against Nigeria on Wednesday,” Afriyie told footballmadeinghana.com in an interview
Afriyie admits the Nigeria U20s will come into Wednesday’s clash all fired-up in a last-ditch attempt to get a much-needed win that will seal qualification to the semifinal stage.
He however wants the Satellites to match the intensity and aggression of the Nigerians.
“They have already played and experienced the tournament. They will want to beat us to qualify. They will want to win by hook or crook and we will also prove our eagerness to win. They will definitely approach us in an aggressive way and we are ready to match them in equal measure,” he concluded.
