Super Eagles legend, Sunday Oliseh has declared the passing away of Argentine legend Diego Maradona as a sad day for football.
The former Ajax midfielder squared up against arguably the greatest footballer of all-time during the US 94 World Cup and Nigeria lost to the genius of Maradona who inspired the South Americans to a 2-1 victory.
Writing on his twitter handle, Oliseh noted: ‘Sad day not just for football, but for Mankind as we lose arguably the best player ever to play football. Somehow, Diego’s death pains me in a strange kind of way. I can’t seem to understand right now. May his blessed soul rest in peace #RIPDIEGO.’
According to Argentine newspapers Clarin and Ole, the 1986 World Cup winner suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on Wednesday morning in the town of Tigre. Maradona had only turned 60 on October 30 and was released from hospital a couple of weeks ago following brain surgery.
