Super Eagles center back, Troost Ekong has listed the Udinese duo of Stefano Okaka and Marvin Zeehelaar as the men behind his move to Watford FC.
Ekong revealed that the duo’s vast experience at the club coupled with their successful stint at Vicarage Road prompted his decision to join Watford despite being relegated to English second-tier football.
His shocking move to Hornets had sent tongues wagging, being a starter at Udinese, but the former Bursaspor defender said he never doubted his decision after he spoke with three former Watford players namely Stefano Okaka, Marvin Zeehelaar, and Behrami.
“I am quite close with Marvin Zeegelaar and Stefano Okaka and they know the club inside out,” said Troost-Ekong in an interview with the club website.
“And then there was [Valon] Behrami before that. I’ve listened to their experiences and now I want to make my own.
“They all had good things to say and I’m excited to be here,” he told Hertfordshire mercury
He expressed his delight to be part of the club long push to return to English Premier League next season.
“It was really great to be part of an exciting time at Udinese for two years, but there comes a time to take the next step and for me, it felt the right next step in my career,” he said
