Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard has revealed the orders given to him by Zinedine Zidane that refused to work out against Real Sociedad.
Odegaard spent the entire season on loan at Real Sociedad and upon his return back to Real Madrid, Zidane included the Norwegian in the team to face his former side in the season opener ahead off Casemiro.
“[Zidane asked me to] help the team, make chances and goals, be between the lines and attack,” Odegaard told Movistar+.
It was the first outing alongside his current team-mates for many years, even though Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were at the club when he made his debut.
“I understand them well but it’s always difficult at the start,” Odegaard said when asked about getting used to his new companions in the middle of the park.
“They are players at an incredible level and that makes it easier for me.”
Overall, Odegaard was happy but not entirely satisfied.
“I feel good but we’re missing the win,” he stated.
“It doesn’t leave me very happy, although it’s good to play for Real Madrid again.
“It was a game against friends and good people.”
The midfielder was later substituted in the second half alongside Luka Madrid as he failed to impress in the first game of the season while Casemiro and Federico Valverde was brought in.
Real Madrid will hope to bounce back when they take a trip to Real Betis on Saturday.
