According to reports from Spain, Barcelona have identified Lautaro Martinez as a potential replacement for Lionel Messi if he eventually leaves the club this summer.
The Argentine informed the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave after losing La Liga title to Real Madrid and disgraced out of the UEFA Champions League, where the Catalan giants were hammered 8-2 by Bayern Munich.
The Telegraph report that senior figures at the Nou Camp expect the exit of Messi with Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez the favourite to replace him
Former Barcelona assistant Juan Carlos Unzue, who worked as No 2 to Luis Enrique between 2014 and 2017 is keen to see the Argentine to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
“On one hand, if he leaves Barcelona, I would love that he goes to remember old times with people he already knows and has felt a shared success with,” he told Stats Perform News.
“I hope he goes to Manchester City; I say this sincerely. I am sure his decision will be very tough.
“Also, I am sure he keeps a great memory of that period with Pep because everyone has grown up alongside Pep.
“This is a reality, not just the players but everyone who has worked in the staff too. I speak for myself, but I have felt and heard that from others.”
