Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen is set for a major role at new club Napoli, with manager, Gennaro Gattuso planning to build the team around him for the 2020/2021 season.
The 21-year-old became the most expensive signing in the club’s history when he penned a 5-year-old deal worth €80m. The Serie A side paid only €50m in cash, plus €10m in bonuses while some youth team players valued at an exaggerated €20m.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Gattuso will change the Napoli system to a 4-2-3-1 as he believes that the previous system of 4-3-3 would not be suitable, because Dries Mertens is now too old to play entirely on the wing of a trident attack and would struggle with the extra work-load.
The new 4-2-3-1 system will see Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Eljif Elmas or Piotr Zielinski support Osimhem. The Nigerian has proven that if the chances are created, he can finish easily and Napoli will be banking on his goals to return to the UEFA Champions League after finishing seventh with 62 points in the just concluded 2019/2020 Serie A season.
Osimhen enjoyed a fantastic 2019/2020 season, scoring 18 goals with six assists in 38 matches for Lille in all competitions and that caught the attention of top European sides including Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea but he chose a move to Naples.
