Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to make an unexpected move for Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, according to report.

Messi is considering his future at Barcelona after a trophyless season at the following their poor ending of the season after the 8-2 Champions League humiliation against Bayern Munich.

The report in Spanish media claim that the Argentine superstar has informed Barcelona directors that he wished to leave before the start of next season.

And El Chiringuito’s Josep Pedrerol says among the European giants monitoring the situation is Real Madrid and Perez.

Pedrerol insists should Messi be granted a free transfer that Florentino will “try his luck” by making a contract offer to the Argentine.

In his current deal, which has less than a year to run, Messi’s buyout clause is set at €700m.

Messi is not expected to switch allegiance to Real Madrid he rather makes a move to his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina.
