In an exclusive chat with German TV, Sports 11 on Saturday, the former Lille forward said he was particularly impressed with talents likes of Diego Maradona, Cavani and Higuain who once played for the Naples side, adding that their legacies will spur him to toe their path.
The Nigerian center forward who will take Milik’s place and lead Napoli attack next season vowed to push himself beyond limit to justify his huge price tag.
“I hope to take a step forward with my experience and do well with Napoli. I have the opportunity to go into the history books of a glorious club like Napoli, where great players like Maradona, Cavani, Higuain once played,”he said.
Commenting on his expectations in the Europa League next season, the former Royal Charleroi forward vowed to propel the Naples side to a successful outing in the competition as well as in Series A.
” Next season we will play in the Europa League and I want to help the club to do well in this competition as well, as well as than in the league “.
The 21-year-old Nigerian striker becomes one of the most expensive African players of all time after signing reportedly at €60m contract including bonuses, while goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis is moving to Lille as part of the deal.
He is also by far the most expensive signing in Napoli’s history, a record that was set last summer by Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven for €38m plus bonuses.
French and Nigerian reports continue to insist the price was €81m, but that probably includes his salary.
