Jose Mourinho is not happy that people don’t know the correct pronunciation of his name and used the opportunity to teach his Tottenham Hotspur players during one of his training sessions.
Spurs finished sixth in the 2019/2020 premier league season in Mourinho’s first season with the London side.
But in typical Jose style he left no stone unturned during his session and it was captured in a footage that was shared from the upcoming Amazon Original Series, All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur. The series captures the shocked reaction of players when the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss arrives at their training ground.
Mourinho was seen asking young defender, Japhet Tanganga how to correctly say his name. Then he followed up: “I hate to tell the wrong names man. Everybody says my name wrong. Everybody calls me Jose, I’m not Jose, I’m Jose.”
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager puts emphasis on a hard J as the start of his name, as in Joe. Mourinho clearly does not like the Spanish pronunciation of his name, with the J sounding like an H.
Mourinho replaced Argentine Mauricio Pochettino as manager in November and led Tottenham to a sixth place finish in the premier league.
