Mesut Ozil will reportedly play no part for Arsenal during their FA Cup final against London rivals Chelsea on Saturday.

The German playmaker has not played under Mikel Arteta after the Premier League restarted in the middle of June and he will once again be watching on as his team-mates battle it out for FA Cup glory.

According to football reporter Chris Wheatley on Twitter, Ozil has been in Turkey over the last few days and therefore will not be involved at Wembley.

Further reports from Goal insist that Arsenal gave him approval to head to Turkey as he wasn’t going to be involved.

The official word from Arsenal regarding Ozil’s omission in recent months is that he has been struggling with a back injury but there are doubts as to whether Arteta has the player in his first-team plans.

The former Real Madrid star and Germany World Cup winner is on a whopping £350,000-a-week salary at Arsenal – making him one of the Premier League’s highest paid players – but he has been used sparingly this season and managed just one goal.

Ahead of Arsenal’s victory over Liverpool, Ozil’s time at Arsenal under Arteta took another twist after insisting on social media he was ‘ready’ for the visit of the champions following his apparent back troubles, only for the Spaniard to leave him out completely from the squad.

Ozil’s days at the Emirates – where he has a contract that expires in 2021 – now certainly appear numbered after becoming the forgotten man at Arsenal.

But on Thursday, Ozil’s agent revealed the midfielder is keen to see out his contract in North London.

‘I don’t think Mesut will leave before the summer of 2021,’ Erkut Sogut told Fanatik.

‘He’s got an ongoing contract that hasn’t changed. He will stay with Arsenal.’

Sogut did however confirm that Ozil will likely leave the Gunners next summer once he becomes a free agent.

He added: ‘When his deal is up, I estimate there is a ninety percent chance he will leave Arsenal.

‘Maybe Asia, America, Turkey? Who knows.’

Ozil has previously been linked with Fenerbahce and it is understood his preference would be to sign for a team in the Turkish top flight or move to the MLS next summer.

Ozil joined the Gunners back in 2013 from Spanish giants Madrid for a then club-record fee of £42.5million, with huge expectations on his shoulders.

But following the departure of Arsene Wenger from Arsenal in 2018, Ozil has been frozen out at the Emirates – firstly under Unai Emery and now under Arteta.

During his seven years at the club, the 31-year-old has lifted three FA Cups – making 254 appearances along the way.
