Chelsea has been linked with a move to sign former Barcelona full-back Marc Cucurella this summer.

The Blues are in the race to sign a left-back and they have identified the Getafe defender as a viable option to replace Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, with both defenders short of what manager Frank Lampard wanted in the squad.

Though Chelsea had other options with Leicester City Ben Chiwell most preferred target the asking price of €90m has discouraged the Stamford Bridge directors from pushing further from signing the English defender.

Lampard has enquired about the Spain Under-21 international, Cucurella played on loan at Getafe from Barcelona with a mandatory purchase clause in the just concluded season in the La Liga.

The clause was €6m but Barça would keep 40 per cent of a future transfer. Getafe has made a commitment of €10m for the purchase option.
