Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has lifted the lid on why he dropped Willian and Kepa Arrizabalaga to the bench in the final matchday in the Premier League against Wolves on Sunday at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea defeated Wolves 2-0 to clinch a fourth place in the Premier League and reached the Champions League group stage of next season.

Lampard defended his action as to why he opted for Willy Caballero and Christian Pulisic as against Willian and Kepa against Wolves.

Explaining his decision to drop Kepa for Chelsea’s final-day clash, Lampard said: ‘It’s just a choice. Kepa has had some difficult times so I’m playing Willy.’

Asked about the threat of Wolves, Lampard added: ‘This is two teams who want to win the game. ‘They’ve had a very good season and whether they qualify for the Europa League or not, they’ve had two good seasons now.

‘They are a great team, fantastically well managed so we have to be ready for the best Wolves.’

Lampard decision paid off as Chelsea defeated Wolves 2-0 to finish 4th and secured a Champions League football next season, thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud just before the end of the first half.
