At this point, it becomes a matter of taking chances and hope; Real Madrid winning their next game while Barcelona hope they do not while also winning theirs. But then, it all lies at the doorsteps of Los Blancos now.

And at the foot of the table, the relegation battle is now between Celta Vigo, Alaves, Leganes and Real Mallorca, all occupying between the 16th to the 19th position respectively following the confirmation of Espanyol’s exit.

Atletico and Sevilla have both booked their places in next season’s Champions League although it remains unclear what positions they would finish on the table. For the Europa League spots, it looks a straight battle between Villareal, Getafe and Real Sociedad, although Athletic Bilbao and Valencia are also in with a shout. However, Villareal, Getafe and Sociedad occupy the fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.

With Espanyol already relegated, the relegation battle is now between Celta Vigo, Alaves, Leganes and Real Mallorca, all occupying between the 16th to the 19th position respectively and any two of them could also be relegated with only two games left.

Mallorca’s 0-2 defeat at Sevilla means they remain rooted to 19th and while Leganes’ 1-0 win over Valencia meant they increased their chances of moving upwards on the table, but they remain stagnant on 18th to complete the bottom three.

While Alaves and Celta Vigo remain out of the bottom three but with only four points separating them from Mallorca, relegation remains a real worry.
