Jose Mourinho has described the fight between his Tottehnam Hotspur players is Hugo Lloris and Son-Heung min as ‘beautiful.’
Both players clashed at half-time during the 1-0 win against Everton at the new Spurs stadium. Le Celso’s deflected striker gave Spurs the win but Lloris was angry at Son after the South Korean failed to track back and allowed Richarlison a shot on goal.
Mourinho had questioned his team’s fighting spirit after their heavy defeat against Sheffield United and needed a reaction. They didn’t play great against the Toffees but the Portuguese was satisfied with the hunger and fight he saw from his players.
“Beautiful,” Mourinho said after the match. “That’s the consequence of our meetings. If you want to blame someone for that, it’s me. I was critical of my boys because they are not critical with each other. I asked them to demand from each other. I asked them to put their colleagues under that pressure that you have to give everything for everybody. I think it is something very important for the team to grow up.”
Mourinho added: “When I was arriving I just saw the back of it,” he said. “They were hugging each other. Hugo thought the attacking players should do more. He was arguing with Sonny and Sonny with him. I wanted to make sure the players knew I was very happy with that.”
The win against Everton was Mourinho’s 200 th in the premier league, joining the like of David Moyes, Harry Redknapp, Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson. With the Scot and Manchester United legend reaching the feat earlier with 322 matches compared to the Portuguese Coach’s 326.
