Chelsea are understood to end the pursuit for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell as Frank Lampard and turn attention to Argentina international Nicolás Tagliafico.
The Blues are on the hunt for a new left-back as Cesar Azpilicueta, Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso have all featured in the position in the current campaign but the Spanish star and Brazilian descent are in Frank Lampard’s long-term plans- making left-back a priority area to strengthen.
However, Chelsea had placed the Leicester ace Chilwell at the top of their summer wishlist but now look prepared to seek out alternatives as Leicester are demanding £80million for the 23-year-old England international who is under contract until 2024 at the Kind Power Stadium.
According to Calciomercato (via ESPN) that the West London outfit has identified Ajax left-back Tagliafico as the more suitable choice to replace or alternative’ to either Emerson or Alonso amid their expected departures.
The Italian outlet play up Tagliafico’s attacking and defensive attributes and report that the relationship between Ajax and Chelsea is good following Hakim Ziyech’s agreed deal.
Tagliafico, who is under contract at the Johann Cruyff Arena until 2022, has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this term.
