Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent a message to former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo after joining Manchester United on a short-term loan deal from the Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on the transfer deadline day.
The Norwegian coach had been eager to bring in a new striker after England international Marcus Rashford was ruled out with a double stress fracture in his back, with Red Devils short on attacking options having let Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave last summer for Inter Milan.
Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Krzysztof Piatek, Josh King, Teemu Pukki and Islam Slimani but the 20-times Premier League Champions opting for Ighalo few hours before Friday’s 11 pm deadline.
Solskjaer had made no secret of his desire to bring in another forward before the transfer window deadline and says Ighalo has the tools to make a big impact.
“Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of center-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us,’ explained the United boss.
