OFFICIAL: Kayode's Donetsk coach appointed as Roma coach

Olarenwaju Kayode's Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca appointed as new Roma coach.

The 46-year-old who replaces veteran manager Claudio Ranieri after signing a two-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico with the option to extend his deal to summer 2022.

Fonseca told Serie A giant official website "I am excited and motivated by the task ahead of us. I cannot wait to move to Rome, meet our fans and get started. Together, I believe we can create something special."

Roma president Jim Pallotta said: "Paulo is ambitious, with international experience, a winning mentality and a reputation for attacking the football.

Fonseca had been in Ukraine since 2016 where he won three consecutive League and Cup trophies, plus the 2017-18 Ukrainian Super Cup.

His previous clubs include Pacos Ferreira, Porto and Braga, where he won the Portuguese Super Cup and Portuguese Cup.

Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season to miss out on Champions League qualification so will enter the Europa League at the second qualifying round.
