NPFL Wraps: Rivers Utd get 1st win as MFM held Warri Wolves

Matchday 4 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) brings first win for Rivers United as MFM held newly-promoted side Warri Wolves at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday.

The Port Harcourt club picked their first win of the season by beating Rangers 2-1 to continue their at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium after Bamba Bakry put the home side ahead from the spot in the 33rd minute, while substitute Ibrahim Olawoyin equalised for the Flying Antelopes in the 54th minute.

Malachi Ohawume, however, scored the winning goal for the Rivers United 16 minutes from time.

Warri Wolves almost won in Lagos but a late equalizer saw the home side, MFM ends the encounter 1-1 but Moses Omoduemuke’s delightful free-kick from about 25 yards went straight into the net to give visiting team the lead in the 57th minute before  Adeniji Kabir Adewole, however, equalized in added time to draw the home side level.

Plateau United maintained top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League following a 1-1 away draw against Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium on Wednesday, when Anas Yusuf put the hosts ahead three minutes before the break, while Mustapha Ibrahim equalised for the Jos based side in the 52nd minute nodding from close range.

Plateau United occupy top spot in the table with 10 points from four games.

Lobi Stars moved to the second position after a comfortable 3-0 win against Heartland at the Aper Aku Stadium after Abdulwasiu Mahmud, Sikiru Alimi and John Lazarus all found back of the net in the encounter in Makurdi.

In Akure, Enyimba suffered their first defeat of the campaign, going down to a 1-0 defeat to Sunshine Stars after Anthony Omaka netted the winning goal on 10 minutes of the game, while the only barren draw came at the nest of champions as host Akwa United played 0-0 against a resolute Katsina United side. Former goal king Mfon Udoh missed a penalty.
