Manchester United sent out scouts to watch Moussa Dembele in a bid to save their campaign following a horrible start to the season.

The Manchester United board informed the scouting team to take a trip to France to watch the clash between Lyon and Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1, but unfortunately, the former Celtic star was not included in the starting line up by the team manager Sylvinho.

The striker was given a chance in the second half and he scored the only goal of the game.

Manchester United to this point has made Dembele their main target and could get the attacker for a cut-price in January.

Dembele,23, is just a goal behind Ligue 1 top scorer Victor Osimhen.

Sportsmail has previously reported on United's interest in Dembele, who they view as a possible solution to their striking problem.

They have kept track of him all season as the six-goal striker has impressed for Lyon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have struggled in front of goal this season after releasing the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan during the summer transfer.

Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle at the Saint-James park in the Premier League on Sunday and they are ready to react will the signing of Dembele.
