LA LIGA WeeK 31 ROUND-UP: Getafe move close to top four

Barcelona and Getafe were the big winners this weekend as their win prove to be significant in the title race and the Champions League qualification for both teams respectively.

Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid to move closer to the La Liga title, goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi sealed a late win for the Camp Nou giants on Saturday and game that was marred by Diego Costa’s red card.

Getafe earned a slim win over Athletic Bilbao to move close to finish in the fourth place, Angel Luis came in the 55th minute for Uruguayan defender Mathias Olivera in the 55th minute to give Getafe the win ion the 78th minute.

José Bordalás’ men main their hold on the fourth spot on the La Liga table after the 1-0 win over the team from Basque.

Celta Vigo moved out of the relegation zone after a 3-1 first back against Real Sociedad at the Abanca-Balaidos Stadium on Sunday.

Relegation strugglers Rayo Vallecano stunned Valencia 2-0 at the Vallecas to keep their hope of remaining in the Spanish top division alive.

Real Madrid loanee Raul de Tomas scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute and in the last minute of the encounter they scored another goal via Mario Suarez to claim the three points.

Valencia hope to finish in the top four was threatened by the defeat to relegation struggler.
