Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin has confirmed that he would quit the Wanda Metropolitano outfit at the end of the season.

Godin spent nine years with Atletico Madrid and made 381 appearances for the Rojiblancos and he said that the club has been a way of life for him during his farewell message to the fans.

The veteran defender is out of contract this summer and he is seriously linked with a move to Serie A to join Inter Milan, who has gotten a deal in place already.

“Now I have more nerves than for any match,” Godin said at the beginning of the press conference, as he tried to fight back tears.

“These are my final days at Atletico, this has been more than a club for me, they have been a family, my home and a way of life.”

Cadena Ser has previously claimed the Uruguayan defender will join the Nerazzurri on a two-year deal with the option of a third, worth an annual wage of €5.5m.

The Uruguayan defender won eight titles with Atletico Madrid during his nine years spell with the club having joined from Villarreal in 2010.

His fellow Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez has already joined Bayern Munich.
