Former Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has set a record to become the highest-scoring defender in Europe’s top five Leagues after scoring in Roma 2-1 win over Bologna at Stadio Olimpico on Monday night.

The Giallorossi broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the break when Serbian international fired the resulting spot kick into the bottom right corner to take his goal tally to eight make him top the scoring charts for defenders in Serie A, Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga.

Seven of the Kolarov’s goals have come in the Serie A, with the other coming during a 7-1 defeat to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia.

Roma moved back to within one point of AC Milan, which occupies the fourth and final Champions League qualifying spot and also three points clear of Atalanta and city rival Lazio, which both lost during the weekend.
