AS Roma have completed the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a season-long loan after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.
The 30-year-old Armenia international joined the Gunners 19 months ago from Manchester United in a deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move the other way but like the Chilean, who moved to Inter Milan last week, he’s struggled for form in his new surroundings.
Mkhitaryan featured as a second-half substitute in Sunday's 2-2 north London derby draw with Tottenham but has been allowed to join the Italian capital side and his exit does put the pressure on our young players to step up. Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka are waiting in the wings for a chance to play the wide role.
There will be no option in the agreement for a permanent transfer though if the former Borussia Dortmund star me in Rome proves to be a success then Arsenal will be open to selling him.
Mkhitaryan has scored nine goals in 59 appearances and 13 assists for Arsenal.
