Chelsea forward backs Sterling following bust-up with Gomez

Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi has backed Raheem Sterling, following a bust-up Joe Gomez at Saint George’s Park on Tuesday morning. 

The 24-year-old  Manchester City attacker had a confrontation with international teammate Liverpool defender during the Reds 3-1 victory over Cityzen in the Premier League encounter at Anfield on Sunday, although they embraced after the full-time whistle.

Sterling latest saga with Gomez as the players joined England camp for the Euro 2020 qualifiers match against Montenegro on Thursday night at Wembley Stadium, which the Jamaican descent will miss the Three Lions' 1000th games but he will return to play Kosovo on Sunday.

Hudson-Odoi, who was recalled to the team after being out due to an injury, praised the winger, going further to say he was his idol. 

Chelsea Academy graduate told Sky Sports:"Someone like Raheem is like an idol to me," 

"The position he plays, and what he's doing for club and country, is an amazing thing, which I will try to replicate myself,"

"It's an amazing feeling to have someone like him doing what he's doing and being around you every time. I want to keep learning off what he does,"


"Raheem's a very nice guy, very encouraging, very positive about everything he does. When I first came in, I didn't expect him to be so nice,"

"Of course, he's a nice person but when you see somebody always welcoming you, just talking to you, giving you advice on how he plays and just being around you a lot, it makes you feel so welcome in the team."

His absence might open the door for Hudson-Odoi to get a starting role since his last appearance against Thursday opponents in March.
