Liverpool forward Sadio Mane scored a brace against Bayern Munich in the 3-1 win over the German Champions in the return leg of their Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena as The Reds book a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The start of the game does not augur well for Liverpool as captain Jordan Henderson was substituted in the 12th minute of the encounter as Fabinho came in for the English midfielder.

Sadio Mane's pace was vital as he found his way to beat Bayern defence line to calmly sloth in the goal in the 26th minute to give Liverpool the lead.

Bayern kept pushing for attack but Liverpool remained defensive conscious before Joel Matip intercepted an offensive pass, that led to an own goal with just six minutes to end the first half in the Allianz Arena.

Liverpool had a greater ball possession in the first half and had different opportunities to get another goal but their effort was not enough to do so.

The first half ended in stalemate as both teams scored a goal each at the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw both teams played consciously, Niko Kovac substituted Franck Ribery for Kingsley Coman in the 61st minute and in the 69th minute, Virgil Van Dijk scored the second goal for Liverpool as the visitors made it 2-1.

Kovac made the second substitute as Javi Martinez was replaced by Leon Goretzka in the 72nd minute and with 11 minutes to end the game Renato Sanchis was thrown in to replace James Rodriguez.

Firmino had a chance to make it 3-1 but he wasted it as his effort was saved by Manuel Neuer, a poor selfish play from Mane as he failed to release the ball to Salah who is better positioned in front of goal.

Mane put the Allianz Arena into silence after he found the corner of the net with a close-range header from a sublime pass from Mohamed Salah to make it 3-1 in the 84th minute of the clash.

Jurgen Klopp made his second substitution as he replaced James Milner with Adam Lallana with three minutes to go.

The game ended 3-1 in favour of Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp's men advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
