Unai Emery's side currently occupies sixth place and a poor run of results sees Gunners sit eight points adrift of the Champions League places, while, Southampton currently in the relegation zone.

Arsenal were humbled in a 2-0 away defeat to Leicester last time out, while Ralph Hasenhüttl's side succumbed to a 2-1 home loss at the hands of a resurgent Everton, stretching their winless streak to seven games.

Arsenal may recall Granit Xhaka for Saturday's Premier League visit of Southampton as former Gunners captain has not featured for the club since swearing at supporters following his substitution against Crystal Palace last month but could return having played both of Switzerland's European Qualifiers last week.

Dani Ceballos (hamstring) is missing while there are minor doubts over Sead Kolasinac, Rob Holding and Bukayo Saka, who will all be tested on Friday to see if they are match fit.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has a full-strength squad after reporting no fresh selection concerns following the international break. Poland defender Jan Bednarek and Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were among those involved in European Qualifiers.

Defender Ryan Bertrand is available having completed his three-match suspension for a red card in the 9-0 defeat by Leicester.

 Head to head

Arsenal have traditionally dominated this fixture, with 50 wins compared to Southampton's 21 with 26 games ending in a stalemate.
