Erstwhile Super Eagles gaffer, Augustine Eguavoen’ has called for calm over Victor Osimhen’s slow starts in the Italian Serie A this season.
The Napoli striker scored two hat-tricks in the club’s build-up to the season but he is yet to open his Serie A goal account after two matches. But Eguavoen has calmed the frayed nerves of Nigerians saying there is no cause for alarm.
In an exclusive chat with FCNaija news over the weekend, the former Black Leopard coach believes Osimhen will come good after a short adaptation in Italy.
He posited that playing in the French Ligue 1 is a different ball game compared to Serie A, adding that the former Royal Charleroi striker needs all the support he can get at a time like this.
Eguavoen maintained that he is not unaware of the pressure that comes with his price tag, but expressed confidence in the ability of the former Lille striker to find his feet in the Italian league.
” Yes a lot of people expect him to start scoring goals in the Serie A because of his price tag but football doesn’t just work like that.
” Osimhen is an asset and he will surely come good. We must not put him under any undue pressure because he is paying in a different league and the style of football is different.
” I’m confident Osimhen will surely score goals. The fans just need to be patient with him and he will deliver,” he said.
