Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has stated in clear terms that playing Desert Foxes of Algeria won’t be a stroll in the park for his players.
Fielding questions from reporters in a press conference held in Austria on the eve of the high-profile friendly, former Burkina Faso and Gabon coach said Friday’s duel will serve as a good test for Super Eagles.
Nigeria’s last defeat came in AFCON 2019 semi-final clash with Algeria after Riyadh Mahrez’s perfect free-kick earned Desert Foxes a 2-1 win, but Rohr maintained that he will not approach the friendly with revenge in mind.
He said the essence of the friendly is to see new players closely and most importantly know the strength of present players without some of the absentees.
Rohr’ however sounded a note of warning to his opponents that Nigeria will be approaching the encounter with the sole aim of ending Desert Foxes’ 18 match unbeaten runs.
“It’s a match to test new players, we want to see what they are capable of, Algeria will be a big test for us, it’s a team that has been undefeated for 18 games and we will try to stop.
” They are a great team in Africa, they are champions of the African continent, we will try to put an end to their good results ”.
Nigeria will be missing the services of Napoli newest kid on the block, Victor Osimhen and Galatasaray midfield enforcer Ogenekaro Etebo.
But it remains to be seen how Rohr intends to improvise without his top stars against coach Belmaldi side that will be playing to its full strength.
