Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni and Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman have a different opinion on Lionel Messi’s new role as a false No.9.
The exit of Luis Suarez has brought a change in the way Barcelona play, Messi has been deployed to the false No.9 role during the 4-0 win over Villarreal at the Camp Nou.
A role Scaloni does not want for his captain at the National team, “The idea we have is always having people in front of Messi when the team has the ball,” Scaloni told Libero.
“It gave us results [in the 2019 Copa America].
“We needed to have people ahead so that he could assist and be deeper and not on the last man.”
Messi has been included in Scaloni’s squad for October’s World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Bolivia.
“He’s been called up for these two games,” the Argentina boss said.
“If he’s available, I don’t see why he can’t perform at his best, like the other players.”
Though Barcelona is still out to sign an ideal number 9 and Inter Milan Lautaro Martinez is on the radar of Blaugurana outfit.
