Still basking in the euphoria of his team 3-0 win over newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, Leicester City gaffer, Brendan is full of praise for Wilfred Ndidi for his versatility and hard work at The Hawthorns.
With Wes Morgan injured and Johnny Evans suspended, Rodgers was left with no other choice than to play Ndidi as makeshift centre back. But it was no small achievement as the Nigerian adjusted well to keep West Bromwich strikers at bay.
In an exclusive chat with Leicestershire.co.uk, Rogers showered encomium on Ndidi for living up to expectations despite being played out of position.
“Very. The whole back four and goalkeeper, they’ve been away with their federations, so we had about two days for them to work together, so it was never going to be perfect. At the start of the game there was a couple of heavy passes and the cohesion wasn’t quite there.
“But for Wilf, it’s the trust I have in him. I would never expose any player to play in a position if I didn’t think that they could. But you saw with him when he slotted in there, he’s 6ft 2ins and he can jump so high, so he’s good in the air, he’s quick in his recovery speed.
“The likes of JJ as well, he was brilliant defensively. It’s what I like in my back-line, I like that aggression, I like them to be able to squeeze the pitch. The back-line was really fast.
“Wilf was very good and the others showed great cohesion considering they haven’t worked a lot together.” he concluded
