Chelsea got off to a winning start with a 3-1 victory against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday evening at the American Express Community Stadium.
Jorginho converted a penalty in the 23rd minute and in the early minute of the second half Leandro Trossard levelled up the scoreline before Reece James and Kurt Zouma sealed the three points for the Blues.
New signing Timo Werner was brought down in the box by Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan and Italian international Jorginho made no mistake from the sport to give Frank Lampard’s men the lead.
Though Chelsea took the lead into the second half Trossard equalized nine minutes after the break to unsettle the visitors.
However, James struck back moments later with a rocket from well outside the box and Zouma added a third 10 minutes later with a side-footed volley from a James corner that took a wicked deflection before beating a helpless Ryan in goal.
Up next for the visitors is the clash against Liverpool on Sunday at the Stamford Bridge while Brighton will host Portsmouth in an EFL Cup second-round match on Thursday before visiting Newcastle in the league on Sunday.
