Anyone who expects Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen to always come first in the pecking order of strikers at the club could be up for a rude shock if feelers from Naples are anything to go by.
Tuttomecartowebb reported on Wednesday afternoon that Napoli gaffer, Genarro Gattuso has opted to embrace the rotational system in a bid to preserve his record signing from burning out.
Gattuso is aware of the immense pressure that comes with Osimhen’s price tag, knowing that he would be expected to churn in good performances week in week out, but the former AC Milan veteran has opted to rotate Osimhen alongside Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna this season.
Petagna had his first training with the rest of the squad yesterday and the arrival of the former Spal striker is part of Gattuso’s strategy to ensure an injury-free season for his strikers.
Gattuso wants three different strikers with strength, pace, and commitment to prosecute what is predicted to be a difficult season ahead. One of those strikers with physical ability is Victor Osimhen, a false nine like Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna who is expected to maneuver, from behind.
The manager has resolved to alternate the three strikers because of the busy schedule ahead and that explains why Napoli has turned down two more striking options from Europe over the last few weeks.
Only recently, European football governing body UEFA showered encomiums on Osimhen after he recorded his second hat trick against Teramo in Napoli pre-season friendly last Friday.
