An emergency meeting of who is who in Barcelona is said to be ongoing following multiple reports indicating that Lionel Messi has demanded an immediate exit from the Catalan club.
Reports in Argentina and Spain on Tuesday evening claimed that Messi had sent a burofax to Barcelona asking the club to allow him to depart, using a clause agreed in his last contract by which he can leave the Nou Camp for free.
That stipulation is understood to have expired on 10 June, though, with Messi’s contract now having a €700m release clause.
Messi, arguably the greatest footballer in history has played for Barcelona in his entire professional football career.
In his almost two decades with the Catalan club, Messi helped the club win 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions League crowns also.
