The Word is rife in Istanbul that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are ready to add Super Eagles and Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho to its a long list of new signings this summer.
Turkish outfit Fotospor reported on Tuesday afternoon that Fenerbahce are in a desperate search for a quality replacement for Veday Muriqi and Kelechi seems to be an ideal replacement the club wanted.
Fenerbahce are said to be preparing around €12m bid and would offer two years loan to the Nigeria International who became surplus to requirements at the club.
The reason behind Fener’s insistence on signing on the Nigerian is not far-fetched; the Super Lig side have made progress with Muriqi suitors, Lazio and the Turkish giants would love to cash in on the striker who is also eager for a fresh challenge outside Turkey.
Fotospor reported that Muriqi was earlier linked to join Leicester City this summer but a move to Serie A side looks likely with Lazio desperate to sign on the striker.
Iheanacho was also linked with move to Premier League survivors Aston Villa early this month after manager Brendan Rodgers’ confirmed that he would be bringing in a new striker this summer.
The former Manchester City forward made 26 appearances in all competitions under manager Brendan Rodgers and scored 10 goals. He featured in Cup competitions despite being snubbed in league matches.
It believed among Fenerbahce faithful that the former Golden Eagles star would fancy a move elsewhere as long as he is guaranteed a starting line-up to further win his place in Nigeria Super Eagles after he was axed from AFCON 2019.
Trabzonspor and Besiktas had in the past indicated their interest in signing the striker.
Iheancho’s contract at Leicester is expected to end June 30th, 2023, and it remains to be seen if manager Brendan Rogers will be willing to offer him an extension.
