Erstwhile Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has been rated as sixth richest African footballer.
South Africa sports outfit, soccerladuma revealed that the former Chelsea midfield enforcer is included in the top ten African richest footballers in history with a net worth of $43m dollars.
The former Middlesbrough star won one AFCON trophy with Nigeria and picked an Olympic Bronze with Dream Team. While at Chelsea, Mikel won two Premier League diadem, one UEFA Champions League, four FA Cups and two Community Shield to cap his 11 years stint at Chelsea.
Sitting atop the money men list is Cameroonian Samuel Eto’O Fils with a net worth of $140 million. Closely followed in second place is Ivorien Didier Drogba who is worth $98 million. Yaya You’re is third on the list with $80m net worth while fourth place Emmanuel Adebayoor is worth $50m.
Fifth place Mohammed Sallah is worth $48m while Saido Mane is the seventh richest African player with a reported net worth of about $38m.
Other African stars on the lists are Pierre Aubameyang who occupies the eighth position with $35m. Ninth placed former Black Stars of Ghana captain Michael Essien is worth $32m while compatriots Asamoah Gyan is tenth on the list with $30 million
It would be recalled that Mikel left Trabzonspor days after the former Plateau United star said he did not feel comfortable with top-flight games in Turkey being played despite the coronavirus pandemic.
The club confirmed in a statement that the Nigerian, who joined them last year and had a contract until May 2021, had left by mutual consent. Mikel is currently a free agent
