Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo was beaten to the Serie A Player of the Month for June by Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez.
The 32-year-old Gomez has showed some fantastic form since the restart of football, grabbing four assists in Atalanta’s wins against Sassuolo, Lazio and Udinese last month to help his side leapfrog Inter into third place.
Interestingly, Gomez did not score any goal during that period but his performances were adjudged better than everyone else.
“Atalanta are one of the most beautiful tales in our league and no-one represents the values of this team better than captain Gomez for his quality and quantity, team spirit and self-sacrifice for his teammates,” said Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.
“Papu’s having an extraordinary season, illuminating our league with his class and acting as the driving force for his teammates on the pitch with goals and assists.”
Gomez has a total of seven goals and 18 assists in 40 appearances for the Atalanta this season.
