Manchester United is ready to pip Real Madrid to the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and it has been revealed that the Red Devil directors are in talks with the midfielder for a possible switch to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The report in the Sunday World says United made their move to sign Havertz weeks ago with vice-chairman Ed Woodward working on a deal to bring the Bayer star to Old Trafford.

Havertz has been in sensational form this season and he has attracted interest from Real Madrid with Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane ready to overhaul the ageing midfield, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric both entering the twilight years of their careers.
