England international Marcus Rashford has sent a congratulatory message to Odion Ighalo after contract extension with Manchester United until January 31, 2021.
The 20th Premier League Champions confirm on Monday they have reached an agreement with the Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua to extend the loan deal for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner for another six months.
Ighalo was brought to Old Trafford as Manchester United needed a new striker after Rashford suffered a back injury in January and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to ease the goalscoring burden on Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
Former Nigeria’s international loan was initially due to end on 31 May but he will now remain with the Reds until 30 January 2021, enabling him to build on an impressive start to life with the club he supported as a boy.
Rashford took to his social media to felicitate with his team-mate on the new contract.
Ighalo has scored four goals in eight appearances for Manchester United before the football suspended worldwide due to coronavirus.
