Nigerian descent Karim Adeyemi has explained why he turned down Chelsea move before joining Austrian giant Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2018 for a fee of three million euros.
The 18-year-old forward was invited along with his family to their Cobham Training Center while the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid had been keeping tabs on the player with a view to a transfer.
Adeyemi who was born to a Nigerian father and Romanian mother told Goal.com why he refused to sign for Chelsea.
“I decided to continue playing at Unterhaching because I felt very comfortable. A move to Chelsea would not have been a sensible step at the time,”
“Of course I am happy when such clubs signal interest, but I just wanted to play football. My team-mates were always behind me.
“Of course it is a bit uncomfortable when the other players ask: ‘Is it true that club X is interested?’
“I was often asked about it at school. I didn’t really want to talk about that.”
Adeyemi started his club career with FC Bayern Munich in 2012 before he had a spell at SpVgg Unterhaching, FC Liefering (loan) and he went on to sign for in FC Red Bull Salzburg where he signed till May 2021.
