Real Madrid veteran midfielder Luka Modric is set to remain at the season beyond the current campaign and he prepared to stay for another season, according to report in Spanish media.
Modric has not been on par with his previous level of performance in the last two seasons that saw he beat the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the European best award and World footballer of the year awards.
The Croatian midfielder was considering his exit from the club in 2020 but he has decided to remain for another season as the club directors are willing to report his decision.
Though Modric has entered his decline and Real Madrid is not willing to offer him a new contract but he is still a key player to Zinedine Zidane and he has stepped up his game in the last few games this season.
The emergence of Federico Valverde has seen the midfield trio of Casimiro, Toni Kroos and Modric broken, Zidane would need a long term replacement for the declining Croatian star, with Martin Odegaard or Donny van de Beek considered for his role.
Zidane will offer more rest to Modric going forward and gives room for the likes of youngsters to spring up next season.
