Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has sent a message to Kingsley Ehizibue, Cyriel Dessers & others for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Sierra Leone on March 27 and 31.
The 66-year-old German tactician released the 24-man squad list last Wednesday for the encounter which included Cologne right-back and top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with both players could make their debut later this month.
Rohr has explained the reason for his choice of players even as he expressed confidence in their abilities.
He said via AOIFootball: “We try to build a good list and we could approach these two players (Cyriel and Kingsley). We met them, we spoke to them and explained how the spirit in the team was, how we play and they were okay with it,” Rohr said.
“We had good observation of all the players, the scouting team did a lot of work and I saw them play myself. Last week I was with the agent of Kingsley in Koln and I also met with Dessers in London,” Rohr added.
Nigeria welcome Sierra Leone to the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Friday, March 27, before flying to Freetown to confront the Stars at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in the return four days later.
Super Eagles currently top Group L of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with 6 points, 3 ahead of second-place Benin Republic whilst the duo of Sierra Leone and Lesotho have one point each.
