Ex-Enyimba ace tells Rohr he can become Eagles No 1 if?Austin Ejide sent a message to Genort Rohr that he can become Super Eagles’ number one goalkeeper if given a chance ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in Uyo.

The German coach Super Eagles currently facing goalkeeping worries with Francis Uzoho currently out injured, while Kaizer Chiefs’ Daniel Akpeyi, Heartland’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Fortuna Dusseldorf’s Maduka Okoye still not proved to be regular between the posts for former Bordeaux boss.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper currently in fine form for Hapoel Hadera where he has played 21 times for ‎Sharon Mimer’s men this season, helping them to the sixth spot in the Israeli Premier League table.  However, Ejide has urged that he has all it takes to help Rohr’s men when 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers resume in March since the premature retirement of former Wolverhampton Wanderer’s star Carl Ikeme due to Leukemia.

Ex-Enyimba ace told BBC Sport: “I know the situation in Nigeria. I get positive remarks in Israel and being rated highly could be something that will pave the way,” Ejide told BBC Sport.”I’ve kept nine clean sheets this season and we all know that goalkeepers always get better with age.

“I can never shut the international door to play for Nigeria again. I believe I have what it takes to get another chance,”

“There are other goalkeepers who never gave up on international football despite their age or being overlooked,” he insisted.
“At 46, Essam El-Hadary still played a major tournament for Egypt, and I can hopefully follow in that footsteps.
“I keep focusing on club football here, the more I do well, then I will continue to retain that hope of playing for my country again.”
Ejide was the first-choice goalkeeper at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations ahead of Vincent Enyeama under coach Berti Vogts but the stopper last featured for the Super Eagles in 2014, has 34 caps for the national side.
