Serge Gnabry’s brace and a goal from Robert Lewandowski against a 10-man Chelsea put the Bundesliga Champions in an advantageous position ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich was in control of the game but the first half ended in a goalless draw, Gnarbry quick second-half goals ensured Bayern’s domination yielded result, the former Arsenal ace score in the 51st and 54th-minute respectively.
And in the 76th minute, Roberto Lewandowski scored the third goal after he produced two brilliant assists for Gnabry to break the deadlock.
Marcos Alonso was sent off seven minutes from time for a flailing arm to complete a miserable evening for the hosts.
The result leaves Chelsea with a monumental task in the second leg on March 18, with Jorginho and Marcos Alonso also set to miss out after picking up a second-half booking.
